Project profile

Awards / Labels

Robotiker and ESI have made some references to ENERGy project in work meetings of the Spanish Technologic Platform on Software and Services (INES), counterpart of the European Technology Platform on Software and Services (NESSI). Some future work could be profited from ENERGy for contributing to new SOA and WS developments in INES.

INES has accredited ENERGy with its label on 5th march 2007, this implicates that ENERGy is related to and answers the necessities defined by the Strategic Research Agenda of INES.

TID has won the first price at the VI CUORE award for its work on the ENERGy project. CUORE is the Oracle Spain Customer Circle (http://www.cuore.es). It was presented to the category of best R&D project developed with Oracle products. The award has been received at the CUORE meeting at Bilbao from 24 to 26 October 2007. The prize includes a journey to the Open OracleWorld 2008 in San Francisco (http://www.oracle.com/openworld/2007/index.html).

It will also engender some publications about the project, in Oracle magazines or public ones.

Conferences / Workshops / Presentations

2005 / 2006

ENERGy has participated in the ITEA Symposia in 2005 and 2006. During the ITEA symposium 2006 in Paris, we presented two posters, and a leaflet describing the project has been published. Demonstration of tele-distribution was available on the booth.

TUI has integrated ENERGy in its general research and education plan. Three student workshops and three department workshops were held between May 2006 and January 2007. Additionally there is a strong cooperation and knowledge exchange between TUI and IDEO. For internal dissemination purposes also posters, roll-up displays and flyers were produced and distributed. More information on the workshops is given in the annex.

Ifak has made presentations about Management of Future Access Networks related to ENERGy at PNO in September 2006. This is the German PROFIBUS user organisation which standardized PROFIBUS and PROFINET and is part of the PI (PROFIBUS and PROFINET International). Another input was provided in August 2007.

2007

TUI and IDEO have jointly participated at CeBIT 2007 in March. They presented management solutions for large scale access networks, especially the ENERGy-Server and the Multi Party Access Gateway (MPAG). The topic of autonomous management solutions were presented by a A0 poster. Great attentions were gained by demonstrating the idea of MPAGs via a physical model (a real access point divided by a real saw). Some press releases were published in regional newspapers. It was very successful for TUI, IDEO and the ENERGy project. Especially the establishment of new connections to other universities and companies has risen the degree of popularity of the ENERGy project. The ideas of the ENERGy project were propagated widely.

Mandriva has presented Energy related research for tele-distribution on Linux Solutions 2007 in Paris, in February 2007.

In February 2007 Ifak presented the Web Services aspects of the ENERGy project in a meeting of the SOCRADES project (Service-Oriented Cross-layer infRAstructure for Distributed smart Embedded devices). They are part of an accompanying committee of the project.

In March 2007, Ifak presented the ENERGy approach to management to ZVEI (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie), the association of electrotechniques and electronics industry.

On April 26th, 2007, Ifak has held a colloquium on automated management of industrial communication systems, see here. This colloquium is part of the activities of the association of German engineers (VDI/VDE) in the working group on measurement and automation techniques (Arbeitskreis Mess- und Automatisierungtechnik). Four other inputs have been given on related topics at meetings of the association in different German cities (details here).

The ENERGy Project was also presented at the “Nacht der Technik” (night of technique) in Ilmenau in May 2007. This Event had several thousand visitors, a mix of academics, business and private people.

As partners of the RAVE project (Realtime Automation Networks in moVing Industrial Environments), Ifak explained the ENERGy approach for the management of industrial devices in a project meeting in August 2007.

In April 2007 the ENERGy consortium has decided to participate in a training workshop of the DESEREC project on 24-25th September 2007. A small group of consortium representatives from Thales, Mandriva and Actimage has attended it and presented the approach to reconfiguration as well as a demo. Indeed, there are important parallels between ENERGy and DESEREC: concepts like policy based management, the detection of failures and automated relocation of services from deficient to working system elements. The main difference is the type of systems that are subject to the projects: ENERGy is giving attention to heterogeneous networks on a general basis whereas DESEREC is focussing on critical systems. First tools and results could be shown for ENERGy and in the questions & answers part of the presentation, several partners of the DESEREC projects asked for more details on different subjects; discussions went on in the following breaks. All in all, the intervention was very successful and the audience was very interested in the project and its outcome.

Almost the whole consortium participated in the ITEA 2 Symposium 2007 in October. The posters showed the main concepts of the project as well as their application in the three different fields of multimedia platforms, industrial plants and telecom service networks. For all these use cases live demonstrations were available on the booth, on computers and with a projection. Presentations have been shown to several officials and representatives of other projects.

ESI will present the concept and results of ENERGy at eFOSEG on the 27 November 2007 in Bilbao. eFOSEG is a Basque Technological Platform that aims to promote the implantation of different technologies related to digital security and trustworthiness within Basque enterprise networks and to perform and improve innovation inside the industrial and technological sectors.

TID will participate at the Oracle OpenForum 2008 held in San Francisco, following the reception of  the CUORE award for the ENERGy project.
